Light in Darkness: Music for Advent and Christmas
December 5th, 2005
It is a yearly holiday tradition in Clan Murphy to buy two or three new Christmas CDs. We tend to go for traditional music, choral works and Christmas music with a Celtic or (but not too groovy) New Age/World Music sound.
Turns out that for our special “find” this year we didn’t have to look very far: the new CD by our good friend Kathleen Lundquist of Portland, OR. The CD is called Light in Darkness: Music for Advent and Christmas. Kathy has a lovely, pure (I call it “silvery”) voice that reminds me a little of Joan Baez. Both her choice of music and her arrangements are exquisite, and we were delighted to help promote the album by selling on the Idylls Press website store.
To hear some samples, check out Kathy’s website. I think my own personal favorite is All My Heart This Night Rejoices, but I’m also getting especially fond of Dark Autumn Hours, a sort of “roots” music song that I had never heard before.
Kathy is a really neat gal and (along with her husband Gary) a fellow-member of the Mythopoeic Society. In other words, we met over Lewis and Tolkien!

I don’t suppose you’ve heard of The Carol Album? Late Medieval and Renaissance Christmas songs, well-written and well-performed.
No, I’m not familiar with it, but always ready for great new Christmas album suggestions! Do you know who are the artists?
