How Dank the Con of Ron?

May 19th, 2006

Though I cannot comment on the DVC film (as film) as such, I must say I am positively gleeful that the consensus is that it’s a dog, if for no other reason than because we can all stop talking (and hearing) about it that much sooner. I am so sick of this subject I could spit.

Onwards and upwards, now that the weather has long since turned its spring corner, my daughter and I are getting in a bit of prime “reading” time whilst walking the two-and-a-half miles home from morning mass, plugged into our little MuVos and Audible downloads. I’m thoroughly enjoying Elizabeth Kostova’s The Historian—it belongs to what is probably my favorite genre of “guilty pleasure” reading: the literate and atmospheric mystery-thriller with a luscious sense of place and a supernatural element. IOW, it’s what Dan Brown & Co are aiming at, and never hit. Rach, meanwhile, is into Les Miserables.

On the Catholic fiction front, Kevin Jones of Philokalia Republic has graciously shared his review of Donna Tartt’s The Secret History with Catholicfiction.net. Speaking of a “literate and atmospheric mystery-thriller with a luscious sense of place and a supernatural element!” I confess it’s one of my personal favorites.
