Immigration and the Curse of the Black Legend
July 9th, 2006
The New York Times has published an important little op ed piece by historian Tony Horwitz that should remind Catholics especially, whatever their take on this issue, or national origin, that at least some of the anti-immigration rhetoric being thrown around right now partakes of a peculiar historical amnesia and the prejudice many Americans have inherited from our English forbears of the so-called “Black Legend of Spain.” Usually these NYT articles are up for at least a week, so look at it soon.
