Welcome amendment to Tridentine liturgy
January 18th, 2008
If you’re like me, you welcome a wider use of the gorgeous Tridentine liturgy. Surrounded by the beauty of language, gesture and music demanded by the old rite, it makes (at least for me) much easier to lift mind and heart to the Divine.
But there was one aspect to the old rite that always made me cringe, and that was the Good Friday prayers for the “perfidious Jews”, etc. So I was delighted to read this article from the Catholic News Service, reporting that Papa Penedict is intending to remove that ugly old language from the beautiful Tridentine Rite, which he has been instrumental in bringing back to more common usage in the western Church.
